Gary Kuchenbecker grew up listening to music from many midwest polka bands like Lawrence Duchow, The Six Fat Dutchmen, Whoopee John, Rudy Plocar, Gene Heier, Wally Ives, and more. From a young age, Gary wanted to have a band, and on May 31, 1974, the Old Lager Orchestra played it’s first dance job. The band initially played mostly polka/waltz music. Over the years, the band’s library has expanded to include more big band music, as Gary also grew up listening to Guy Lombardo, Eddy Howard, Dick Jurgens, Patti Page, and Jan Garber, to name just a few.
 
In addition to running the band, Gary also has hosted a radio show since October 1974. If you are in Northeast Wisconsin, try to tune the show in Sunday nights from 7pm to 11pm on 92.3FM WJMQ. For the rest of the world, Gary also hosts a internet broadcast on WRJQRadio.com. Gary's show is on Saturday's at 1pm Central Time.
 
Back in the mid 70’s, Gary felt the band needed a name, and since Gary was also raised with beer, the name “Old Lager Band” fit quite well.
